Leo Cruz

Baby Leo Cruz is here and we are so in love with him. Here is how he came into this world:

I went in for my 39 week doctor appointment and I had not dilated at all, so I was thinking I would definitely be going over my due date. Early the next morning at 12:18 AM I woke up with the really bad low back pain that would not go away no matter what I did. It woke me up every hour until Chance's alarm went off in the morning. As he was leaving for work I told him that I was going to call my doctor if the pain didn't subside. Well I made it to about 10:30 AM and then I called his work and told him to come home because I needed a ride to the office. The doctor took one look at me and told me my water had broken and that we were having a baby that day. I had no idea my water had broken because I was expecting it to be a huge gush of fluid or something, but it wasn't that way for me. We walked next door to the hospital and as soon as I got into the hospital bed the contractions hit me so hard I thought my back was being broken in half. I received an epidural about an hour and half later and oh what a blessing that was in my life. I was progressing well on my own and so the nurses and doctor left for a bit and it was just Chance and me in the room. A short while later a nurse came in looking frantic and started having me turn and move in all different positions because the baby's heart rate was dropping to unhealthy levels. They tried everything and then called the doctor who was quickly in the room telling us that a c-section would need to be done. I was so overwhelmed at how rapidly everything had changed and I think this is when my emotions boarded the roller coaster that they would be riding all week. The c-section went well and the moment I saw our baby I knew everything would be ok because he was here safely.
On the day of our discharge Leo was circumcised and then on his way to our room had a 'blue spell' where he stopped breathing. The neonatologist thought it would be best to keep Leo in the NICU for 72 hours to make sure it didn't happen again. I was able to 'nest' in the hospital, meaning I could stay in one of their rooms so that I could feed him without being a patient. It worked out well and 72 hours later we were on our way home. I still can't believe I am a mom to this cute boy.
